News and April show announcement

It is with deep regrets that I inform you I will no longer be hosting monthly Southern Surf Stomps. It has been an incredible three years(!) and an honor and privilege to work with so many wonderful and talented people. I've made some lifelong friends in the process from all over the country and found a new home at Kavarna. I'm incredibly proud of all the things we've accomplished; hosting 50 surf and instrumental groups in 4 cities across 3 states, with two acts whose members have been nominated for Grammys!

With all of that said, we are far from done. We will still be doing shows such as April 21st's with Jeffrey Butzer's The Compartmentalizationalists, Genki Genki Panic, In Snow, and Nikki Speake (Midnight Larks). If your group would like to perform, please don't hesitate to contact me as we will still be holding shows at Kavarna and elsewhere.

Southern Surf Stomp! presents Ouroboros Boys, McPherson Struts, MOONBASE

Much like February's Stomp, we have another StompFest favorite returning on March 13th.  Asheville's Ouroboros Boys are bringing their mandolin lead, classic surf sound with a bit of a dreamy vibe to Kavarna.  Having recently release their first official 7" single and music video, these guys are going to be hitting the pavement hard this year and we're proud they've chosen to make Atlanta one of their stops.

Speaking of hitting the pavement, not many bands do it harder than Alabama's McPherson Struts.  The trio is a well oiled rock 'n' roll machine performing loud and gritty music infused with country, punk, rockabilly, metal, and much more.  Their leader is the lovable Buck McPherson, who sings and plays the drums whilst standing.

Atlanta's number one progressive surf instrumental combo MOONBASE will be returning to the Stomp for the first time since the release of their debut record "Creation Myths" in August of 2014, their first show since September.

MOONBASE "The Serpent" music video

My dear friend Drew Mobley just finished this incredible video for my group MOONBASE's tune "The Serpent" off of our debut record "Creation Myths" and we couldn't be more thrilled with the result.

Southern Surf Stomp! and The KBK presents Mini Surf Fest II

Ouroboros Boys (Asheville, NC)
The Go-Go Killers (Huntsville, AL)
The Original Shake Charmers (Tuscaloosa, AL)
The Maja Dunes (Debut…Birmingham, AL)

Syndicate Lounge
433 20th Street South
Birmingham, AL

The first Mini Surf fest was held in 2012 and featured Daikaiju, Kill Baby Kill, The Monterreys, Necronomikids, The Mystery Men?, and The High Fidelics. Originally put together as a last minute effort to provide some traveling bands a warm-up show the night before Clarkston Surf Fest in Atlanta, Georgia, the event ended up drawing an unusually large crowd, bringing the venue Das Hause to near capacity. With the success of the event, intentions were to turn this into an annual event. However, efforts to do so never proved fruitful, as schedules with venues and bands never seemed to match up. But with the newly cemented Birmingham, AL venue Syndicate Lounge, the stars have aligned allowing for a continuation of what began so many years ago.

Once again thrown together as a last minute effort to provide a warm-up show for traveling bands playing a Saturday festival, Mini Surf Fest II is a bit of a gorilla effort. Thanks to a supportive venue, street team, and bands, we have been able to pull this lineup together in a few short weeks.
