Forbidden Waves are making their way back to Atlanta (by way of Athens, GA) with new album in tow!  Joining them will be regulars Gemini 13 and newcomers The 19 Hands, with their brand of snotty garage-punk.

Southern Surf Stomp! presents The Beech Benders, The Blacktop Rockets, Gemini 13 (CD release!)

2015's StompFest (and Instro Summit) favorites The Beech Benders return from Nashville to join us for their first regular Stomp.  These guys put on a wildly fun and entertaining show, playing in styles that range from Stax worthy rhythm and blues to interesting covers to of course surf.

The Blacktop Rockets are a legendary Atlanta institution and this year marks 30 years since their inception.  They play classic rockabilly and roots music with a punk rock attitude.

Gemini 13 arise like a phoenix from the ashes having lost their rhythm section last year and yet come out swinging with brand new members and a brand new ep (their first) to boot!  It was uncertain how they'd fair with the lineup change until their comeback show after StompFest in September, where they were faster, louder, and more aggressive than ever.

Southern Surf Stomp! presents Southern Ska Syndicate, Rondo Hatton (LA), Revenge Beach (Athens)

 

Athens, Georgia seems to have been churning out great surf and instro groups as of late.  Although I've only had exposure to one tune, Revenge Beach seems to be no exception.  Thunderous drums drive a refreshing modern take on the classic surf formula.  I believe members of the band formerly to be in another Athens combo, The Curl, and I'd like to thank Richard of The Mystery Men? for bringing these guys to my attention.

Rondo Hatton is one of the few surf bands to come out of Louisiana, and the only from Baton Rouge as far as I can tell.  Not unlike Los Straitjackets, I'd categorize them more in the instro camp, drawing from a vast array of influences from pre-surf instrumentals (a la The Ventures, Fireballs, Santo & Johnny), blues, Tex-Mex, Spaghetti Western, and of course classic surf rock.  The group regularly releases albums of mostly original material, with excellent compositions, production, and striking album art.

November's Stomp will be the official debut of the Southern Ska Syndicate.  The nine piece(!) band is a super group of sorts, comprising members from several acts with which our readers might be familiar like The Penetrators, The Mystery Men?, El Capitan and the Band With No Name, and Gemini XIII, along with several members of the legendary Atlanta ska group The Robustos.  They'll be performing many of the ska, reggae, and rocksteady classics.

Southern Surf Stomp! presents The Compartmentalizationalists (CD release), Gemini XIII, Band. James Band.

The Compartmentalizationalists is the moniker for multi-instrumentalist Jeffrey Bützer's guitar based trio.  In this group, Bützer channels his inner Sonny Sharrock, Thurston Moore, and Starcrunch to create noisy, reverb laden instrumentals.  Not only will this show serve as the official Southern Surf StompFest! after party, but the band will be taking the opportunity to release their debut album, "Sutures", as well.

Gemini XIII have been on a bit of a hiatus recently as they've been working through some personnel changes, but I'm happy to announce that they will be debuting their new lineup at September's Southern Surf Stomp!  If ever there were an underrated surf group in Atlanta, it would surely be these guys.  The quartet writes some truly great music and their live shows have escalated exponentially since the band's inception.  Having been a huge support to the Stomp and the local surf community in general, I'm excited to see what future missions they have in store.

"You expect me to talk?  No, Mr. Bond.  I expect you to...surf!".  Rounding out the evening will be the declassification of top secret tones from Band. James Band., Atlanta's own James Bond themed tribute act.  You can expect to hear your favorite Bond themes, as well as other spy themes and many more surprises.

We're also glad to have our resident DJs, The Fringe Factory, back with us for this event.  They'll be spinning the best surf, garage, rockabilly, and golden era rock 'n' roll.
